What Does That Really Mean?
Have you noticed that when people give you a gift that they really haven’t thought much about, they will often hedge their bets by saying, “It’s the thought that counts.” What does that really mean?
It says, “We didn’t really care about this gift so we stopped at CVS and got you some junk that is nice enough for us to call it a gift but too cheap for you to not be embarrassed to return.”
Why don’t they just say, “It is bad enough that you are getting old. We didn’t buy anything to remind you of your constant aging. Instead we spent that money on helping us feel younger.” At least that would be the truth.
If the thought really counted more, the deep thinkers of the world would be on easy street.
